Last week, a federal judge approved the termination of the United Airlines pension plans. While that doesn’t completely leave all the current and former employees out in the cold, it does mean that the federal government (i.e. taxpayers) will be assuming the obligations of the airline and paying substantially lower benefits to the employees. Yet another indication of how great it would be to privatize Social Security… What could possibly go wrong?
Australia has a semi-private Social-Security-like scheme called “superannuation”(or “super” as Aussies are wont to shorten any word with more than 2 syllables): http://tinyurl.com/9xbe6
